Dreams, Dior, and Diversions

Published on February 25, 2025

Long time no see! It’s been almost five years since I last kept a blog on my old website. I’ve always thought maintaining one felt a little self-indulgent, but here I am again. Personally, I’ve always kept a diary—mostly for tracking dreams and random thoughts. Speaking of which, here’s the last dream I wrote down:

My computer broke because some kid had a crush on me, but I didn’t reciprocate. In retaliation, he knocked it on the side, and that was it—broken. Before that, I had gone outside and noticed my neighbor’s yard gate was open. It was foggy, eerie, and gave me that weird, unsettled feeling. Then, somehow, I ended up calling Ben Mendelsohn. Apparently, in my dream, he played some playboy tech genius with two women handling his calls. But despite the cliché, he was actually a nice guy.

Breaking it down: I’ve been anxious about breaking my computer ever since I actually did last fall. The fear has just been sitting in the back of my mind. Lately, I’ve also been going out more during the day, inspired by visiting the mailbox to see if my magazine I ordered from overseas finally got here (which I’ll definitely blog about when it arrives).

Now, why Ben Mendelsohn? Who even is he? Great question!

Fun fact: I used to be terrified of him as a kid!
Like me, you might know him from Rogue One.

Some context: I’ve had a rough time in writing workshops lately, but I assume that’s a universal experience. I was working on a piece inspired by parapsychology (fueled by my Psychonauts fixation back in December), but it got shot down for being “too similar” to something else. I’ve mostly moved past it, but to shift my focus (and get my workshopping group off my back), I’ve been diversifying my watchlist—hence Star Wars and, most recently, The New Look, which seems to be widely disliked.

I’m no corporate fashion enthusiast, but I actually enjoy this show. Sure, Ben Mendelsohn looks nothing like Christian Dior, but he carries his performance well—along with most of the cast, including Maisie Williams. The show definitely idolizes Dior, but I can look past that and still find it entertaining. The real draw? The drama. Two rival fashion houses? Absolutely. The weird industry politics that come with it? Not so much.

A fun fact about me: whenever I come across an actor I like, I try to watch at least one other film they’re in. If I really like them (à la my obsession with David Dastmalchian’s films), I go all in.

Anyway, short post tonight since it’s past my bedtime. I haven’t finished the show yet, but I’ll keep you (whoever “you” are, if anyone is even reading this) updated!
