Characters You'll Meet

Great stories start with believable, interesting characters, rather than complicated plots. Build characters by giving them depth through physical details, behavior, dialogue, and backstory, while avoiding stereotypes. Let characters feel like real people who can surprise you and drive the story through their choices. To make them feel authentic, study real people around you, imagine how they would react in different situations, and give them emotional motivations and flaws. Secondary characters matter too because they add texture and realism. Good writers also let characters grow or change over time, like real people do, and use exercises like character interviews or “what would they do?” scenarios to better understand them.
